LIM & Property Reports

What is a Land Information Memorandum?

A LIM is a report prepared by the Council at your request. It provides a copy of all the known information held by Council that relates to a specific property.

What information will a LIM provide?

The following is a guide to the type of information that may be held by Council and included within a LIM.

  • Information on special features or natural hazards of the land. This may include potential erosion, subsidence, flooding, rock fall and rapid debris flow areas, or the presence of hazardous contaminants which are known to the Council
  • Information on private and public stormwater and sewerage lines and water supplies
  • Valuation and rating information including any rates owing and the area of the property
  • Any consents, certificates, notices, orders or requisitions affecting the land or buildings
  • Information relating to the zoning of the land under the Buller District Plan

Why do I need a LIM?

If buying a property, a LIM can answer many important questions that you may have about the land or any buildings on the property. As a vendor, obtaining a LIM can be a useful way of identifying any outstanding requirements which may need to be remedied or taken into account.

The fee for the issue of a LIM is $175.00 per property. LIM applications must be in writing on an official application form - form is available below, or from the Council offices in Westport and Reefton. A LIM will be issued within 10 full working days of the date of request being received.
