Gambling policy review

Councils in New Zealand are required to have a policy on Class 4 gambling ('pokie machines') and TAB venues in their district. These policies must be reviewed every three years. The Buller District Council has recently reviewed its policy and has proposed some changes.

There is now an opportunity for the public to make submissions to Council on the Draft Class 4 Gambling and Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) Venue Policy.

Council has specifically asked for feedback on whether or not to introduce a cap on machine and/or venue numbers, and on whether or not the policy does enough to facilitate community involvement in decisions about the provision of gambling.

Written submissions on the Draft policy will be accepted until 4pm Monday 31 August 2009. Submissions should be marked "Gambling Policy" and sent to: Buller District Council, PO Box 21, Westport 7866.
