Due to the unexpected demolition of the St James Theatre, Westport is currently without a dedicated performing arts venue. Work is now underway on the transformation of the Westport Community Centre into the Westport Performing Arts Centre.
Over the coming months, the community centre will be transformed into a 400 seat live performance venue, 52 seat cinema and 22 seat multi-use screen room. Additions will be built onto the south and east sides of the building to house new foyer space, shop, kitchen, green room, dressing rooms, piano store and backstage facilities.
The Performing Arts Centre is due to be completed at the end of February 2010. To view photos of progress check out the website below.
