Bylaws

Bylaws are special laws that apply to the Buller district specifically. They are a localised form of legislation that apply to local issues not already covered by any existing Acts of Parliament or Regulations. They can deal with public nuisances, help to maintain public health and safety, and govern offensive or unwanted behaviour in public places. For example, the liquor bylaw directs the consumption and possession of liquor in specified public places to address criminal offending and public safety concerns.

The Buller District Council has adopted the following bylaws, which operate throughout the district. The Council has adopted a mix of Model General bylaws (New Zealand Standards Association) and Council bylaws.Copies of all bylaws are avialable to view at the Buller District Council and the Reefton Service Centre. Where Council has adopted Model General Bylaws, these should be read in conjunction with any Council bylaws. Model bylaws are not available in electronic form.
