Council has adopted the Buller District Council Freedom Camping Bylaw 2011 which will come into force on 2 May 2011.

Under the Bylaw freedom camping is allowed in Buller for self contained vehicles certified against NZS5465:2001, for up to three days per calendar month in any single location, provided you do not camp:

  • within 500 metres of a registered camping ground;
  • at any of the prohibited areas listed in Schedule A of the Bylaw;
  • at any area where “No Camping” signs are displayed.
