Buller District Libraries consists of the Sue Thomson Casey Memorial Library in Westport and the Inangahua County Library in Reefton. Our libraries offer community groups, events, and classes for adults and children. We provide access to computers and WiFi, newspapers, council information, local history archives, scanning, printing and laminating.
We also offer meeting rooms for hire.

Books and resources in our libraries are available for all Buller residents regardless of location. Any item available in Reefton can be put on hold and borrowed by those in Westport and vice versa. We will contact you when requested item(s) have arrived to your chosen library and are available for pick-up.

Data Change Information

We would like to inform you about a change in the way we store your data at Buller District Libraries, taking effect 17 May, 2024.
Currently your library membership details are held in data centres located in Christchurch and Auckland. From 17 May 2024, this data will be moved to larger and more secure data centres in Melbourne and Adelaide.

If you do not wish for your own data to be part of the initial change, you may choose to cancel your library membership no later than May 6th.

The Sue Thomson Casey Memorial Library Carpet Project

You may have heard our Westport Library is getting new carpet!

We recommend if you would like to avoid a book drought at your house while the re-carpeting takes place, you should issue your adult fiction, non fiction and large print books before May 11. Our Reefton Library will still be open and operating as per usual!
The Westport library will be partially open for: children's books, newspapers, DVDs, magazines and young adult books ONLY during 13-21 May. We will be fully closed from 22 May and reopening on 11 June 2024. This means, you will need to issue your books in advance. We will be extending issue times and book-hold pickup dates to make sure this runs smoothly!

Some of our events and services will be happening at the NBS Theatre! Keep an eye on our Event Calendar to find out what is happening and where.
Don't forget! There's always Libby, Borrowbox, and Kanopy to keep you entertained during our temporary closure. These apps give you access to a vast range of e-Books, e-Audiobooks, and video streaming. We are more than happy to show you how to set these Apps up on your devices, and our 1 on 1 Device Advice appointments will still be available during the temporary closure. Simply contact us to book an appointment.
Below you will find key dates for each stage of this project. Click on each tab to see what is happening and when.
